As the AP reports: Schumer to advance GOP funding bill, unwilling to risk government shutdown as deadline nears. Chuck Schumer, the Senate Democratic Leader writes, “A shutdown would give Donald Trump and Elon Musk carte blanche to destroy vital government services at a significantly faster rate than they can right now.”
Many Democrats say they are still planning on voting against the bill, but Schumer believes there are enough votes to move it across the finish line.

The biggest headline of the week continues to be the tariff rollercoaster that has wreaked havoc on Wall Street. Today, when asked about the tariffs, Trump said, “I’m not going to bend at all.” Now the tariffs may widen beyond Mexico, Canada and China. Reuters reports: U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to slap a 200% tariff on wine, cognac and other alcohol imports from Europe, opening a new front in a global trade war that has roiled financial markets and raised recession fears.
CBS News: Passengers evacuate after American Airlines plane catches fire on tarmac of Denver airport
Another scare in the air (or one the ground) as a diverted American Airlines 737 catches fire after landing at Denver International Airport. Passengers were seen exiting via a wing of the plane. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
