Here are some of the words I’ve heard today about what went on at the White House between Donald Trump, JD Vance and Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelenskyy:
Shameful
Disgraceful
Disgusted
Embarrassed
Heartbroken
Scared
Repulsive
Humiliating
Amateurish
Ambush
Trump and Vance looked like two school yard bullies attacking a classmate. They looked like off-the-rail parents reprimanding a child whose only crime was asking for help. However you put it, today will be written about in history books as a dark day for the United States. NBC News broke down what happened.
Today marked one of the grimmest days in the history of America diplomacy.

Remember how the majority of Republicans supported Ukraine for years? That seems to have ended today as most have fallen in line with Trump, as they do on almost everything these days (just take a look at Senator Lindsey Graham’s response). Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat quietly on the couch next to JD Vance as the awful exchange occurred, looking dismayed, which would make sense given his long-held disdain for Vladimir Putin. That isn’t what he conveyed after the meeting, though. Instead Rubio tweeted, “Thank you @POTUS for standing up for America in a way that no President has ever had the courage to do before. Thank you for putting America First. America is with you!”
John Bolton, former U.S. National Security Advisor in the first Trump administration, told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace this is a time where Rubio should have instead offered up his resignation. We won’t hold our breath.
